I Be Thinkin: Inlaws and Whatnot

Carroll O’Conner as Archie Bunker

June 3, 2013

Everybody knows that there is a cultural rule that says if you are married, you must engage in a commonly known practice of poking fun at in-laws. I am guilty. It’s as American as apple pie and George Wallace. Of course I’m referring to my Twitter friend, @Mr George Wallace, the funniest comedian alive. Sorry George for stealing your tagline, “I be thinkin.”

Ya’ll go buy a damn George Wallace T-Shirt or go see his Vegas Show!!

Apparently my Twitter stalker, I call her that because I am the only person she follows, has made a point to go out of her way to prove to everyone how much I must hate my wife’s family by showing everyone my Tweet.

The Tweet reads:

“Made it to Oklahoma with in laws. Please, someone shoot me!”

That Tweet was re-tweeted by a few folks that have a sense of humor. Something my stalker obviously has none of. Get a clue lady, that Tweet was a joke. It’s the same joke about in-laws that’s been traded for hundreds of years now.

I can only guess that this lonely little outcast still holds a grudge against me for being honest and out spoken. Long story and no I won’t go there again. That bullshit goes back a ways and my best guess is that she must secretly have a crush on me. I mean, why else would someone keep drawing attention to themselves by invoking my name in trashy rumors? -And why am I the only person she follows? Does her husband even know that? It’s kinda creepy when you think about it.

I happen to love my in-laws and would do damn near anything for them. If I hated them then why would I drive for 13 damn hours with two crying kids and a weenie dog with bad breath several times a year to come visit them. We don’t all agree on politics and that’s fine. Some of them are liberals, I’m a Libertarian. Hey, nobody’s perfect. It’s a beautiful thing to have a family as diversified and dis-functional as mine. It makes for great conversation and gives the family outcast food for rumors.

Don’t get me wrong here, everyone talks about family behind their backs, it’s human nature. If you try and tell me that you never did that, well then I’m calling you a liar. You know you did! My problem is when you put forth conscious effort to intentionally cause harm and turmoil between family members, then you have crossed the line. That’s not something you really want to do with me and my family. The end result will not be worth the effort, and it most certainly won’t gain support from the rest of the family. It only hurts you and your own family. If you don’t like me that’s fine, I’m ok with that. However, I would suggest you back off. You’re making yourself look like some sort of pathological creep. Hey, if I’m your husband, I might seriously consider sleeping with one eye open. Ya knowhutamsayin?

I sorta live in an Archie Bunker, “All in the Family” kinda world. They all know about my blog, and of course they all know about my Twitter feed. They all know what an asshole I can be and what a really nice guy I am at heart. Of course they all know by now how I allegedly “robbed the cradle”. Inside joke folks. They all know what I’m talkin about, because I continue to receive comments and emails from those anonymous prudes.

It’s the price I pay for being outspoken and honest about my feelings and opinions. Sorry folks, but that’s the way I role these days. When you get to know me you soon understand that I am honest with my feelings and beliefs. There is no mask over my head. So with all that being said, I hope I’ve cleared the air about my relationship with those darn in-laws. I truly love them all.

And to my Twitter stalker, Kharma can be a real bitch. -JRoycroft
